bandit potter harry potter themed great hall Book nook: Project Seven

Bringing the magic of the wizarding world onto your bookshelf, this DIY Harry Potter-inspired book nook shrinks the iconic Hogwarts Great Hall down into a highly detailed, glowing miniature masterpiece. The build begins with the structural foundation, utilizing air-dry clay to meticulously hand-sculpt weathered stone walls and textured floor tiles. A moody black paint wash and crisp off-white highlights are applied to bring out the ancient, centuries-old stone look. From there, the hall is brought to life with an enchanted starry ceiling crafted from celestial craft paper and a custom-made stained glass window.

No Great Hall is complete without its signature ambiance and grand feast, which is where the intricate detailing comes into play. LED fairy lights and air dry clay tapers create a floating candle effect that magically illuminates the space. Below the floating lights sits the Head Table, dressed with miniature silverware and a custom Sculpey-clay Hog's Head pitcher. The entire book nook is housed behind a sturdy wooden door crafted from balsa wood and layered with air-dry clay and Sculpey details, which feature tiny, hand-sculpted house crests and swing open smoothly using a simple ribbon-hinge hack.

Serving as the ultimate inspiration for the project is Bandit Potter, my real-life canine companion. Stealing the show in his Gryffindor cape, Bandit's presence is immortalized in the center of the Great Hall with a custom, hand-sculpted clay miniature figurine. The tiny clay Bandit features meticulously textured fur, a grumpy little sorting hat pinched from clay, and a hand-made red and gold Gryffindor house scarf. Standing proudly beside the Head Table, mini-Bandit completes the build, making this unique book nook a perfect blend of high-level craftsmanship, wizarding world nostalgia, and pet-loving charm.
